UK Intellectual Property Office Fees to Increase from April 2026
The UK Intellectual Property Office (IPO) has announced it is increasing fees for patents, trade marks and designs from April 1st next year.
All fees are set to increase by an average of 25% subject to parliamentary approval. For example, patent application fees will increase from £90 to £120, and requesting a patent search will increase from £150 to £200.
A full list of current and new fees can be found here.
The IPO has cited inflation and future cost pressures as reasons for the proposed changes. Although an increase of 25% is a significant jump, we believe the IPO would still represent extremely good value for money compared to other major Patent Offices, especially given the tax benefits of a UK patent.
This will be the first time the IPO has implemented any fee increases since 2018.
