New patent search tool to boost UK innovation

A new online search tool for UK patents launched today will make it easier for businesses and innovators to search and access patent information, supporting UK growth and innovation.
Computer technology takes the lead…
The European Patent Office has published stats for patent filings in 2024. Not surprisingly, there has been an increase in AI & Battery inventions meaning for the first time computer technology based applications have taken the lead. Samsung is the new top applicant, overtaking LG & Huawei and the US has maintained it’s position at the top for the origin of applications. 1 in 4 applications filed at the EPO last year named at least one female inventor. EPO Validation Agreement with Laos
Thanks to the validation agreement which enters into force on 1st April 2025, inventors and businesses can validate their European patents in Laos via a simple, cost-effective procedure using the EPO’s high-quality patent grant process.

Which country is filing the most patents?
Applicants based in nine of the top 10 origins filed more patent applications in 2023 than in 2022. India-based applicants saw a remarkable 15.7% increase in patent applications filed worldwide, marking their fifth consecutive year of double-digit growth, primarily driven by resident filings in India.
